Handcycle Specific

Our uniquely strong and tough materials capability allows us make the highest performance wheels available.  Our product differences also come from applying our technology to the specific requirements of each type of riding.  Our handcycle wheels are designed as performance thoroughbreds.  We offer a wide range of configurations to match each specific rider's differing strength, weight and power requirements. If you do not see what you need in the wheels listed below, contact us, we can make other custom configurations. 

Handcycle Wheel Configurations 

A typical handcycle wheel set configuration is a standard bicycle 650C rear wheel as a handcycle front wheel with a pair of 650C threaded axle handcycle rear wheels.  

Tubular and Clincher Tire/Rim Configurations

CROSSWIND and FLY models are currently shipping with high performance tubular style rims (see tubular tire advice).  Spider is shipping with clincher style rims.  If you want CROSSWIND in a clincher rim, Contact us as soon as possible to be added to the wait list.  We recommend tubular style rims for their performance.  Tubular tires offer excellent aerodynamics, handling, strength, toughness and performance.  Call us for specific tire recommendations.

Shimano and Campy Compatible

Our standard drive-train (gearing set-up) is Shimano 8/9, if you are want Campy 9/10, we have several 100% Campy compatible options available.  See hub configuration.

CROSSWIND^TM handcycle wheels have all the world's best aero and acceleration advantages of the CROSSWIND and CROSSWIND Clydesdale models.  Handcycle wheels are also available in standard colors and USA colors for an upgrade cost of $110 to $260 per wheel. 

All variations of the CROSSWIND wheelbodies are interchangeable across the full range of CROSSWIND front and rear hubs.  The rear handcycle configuration is created by installing a CROSSWIND handcycle hub  With a weight of only 165 grams the handcycle hub  sets a new standard for strength, weight and stiffness.  It uses the standard one sided threaded attachment  (1/2"-20) and features an oversized 316 stainless steel axle. 

CROSSWIND offers the best aerodynamics ever created for cycling.  The lowest head-on drag and among the lowest side-on drag, unique among aero wheels.  So effective are the side wind control characteristics that we named the product after them.

The incredibly light 290 gram rim (650C standard, 335 650C Clydesdale) drives a remarkably low inertia and quick acceleration that rivals any wheel. With CROSSWIND this acceleration comes without the aerodynamic compromises of competitors.

FLY^TM handcycle wheels have all the aero, acceleration, weight and strength advantages of the FLY and Horse FLY models. The rear threaded axle style handcycle wheel is available in 3 alternative spoke counts (18, 24 or 28) to accommodate a wide range of rider weights and riding styles (see below). 

Front cassette style hub (bicycle rear) weighs 218 grams.  Both Campy and Shimano style options are available (see hub compatibility and see cassette hub).  

The rear handcycle 1/2 inch style threaded hub features a 15 mm diameter 316 stainless steel axle that is the stiffest and strongest available, while the hub weighs only 228 grams.  Spokes are black double-butted stainless steel.

FLY wheels can also be colored for an upgrade cost of $60 to $120 per wheel (see FLY color).  Also see rims, FLY images, and price.

Spider^TM handcycle wheels have all the aero, and acceleration advantages of the Spider models with the price performance and convenience advantages of precision Spider alloy clincher rim.

he rear 1/2 inch style threaded hub features a 15 mm diameter 316 stainless steel axle that is the stiffest and strongest available, while the hub weighs only 228 grams.  Spokes are black double-butted stainless steel.

Front cassette style hub (bicycle rear) weighs 220 grams.  Both Campy and Shimano style options are available (see hub compatibility).  The Spider rear threaded axle style handcycle wheel comes in two spoke counts (24 or 28) and 2 rim/nipple configurations, the standard accessible nipple and hidden aero nipple (see below).  The aero hidden nipple configuration places the nipple inside the rim and trades wheel building and truing convenience for superior wheel aerodynamic performance.  Also see rims,  cassette hub, and Spider images.  

The configurations listed below can be ordered as standard accessible or aero hidden nipple.  The aero hidden configuration has an upgrade cost of $25/wheel (see price).
